Ok, I've had my baby for almost two years now and have never thought to ask this. On the bottom of my dashboard, below and to the right of the steering column, is a computer connection. When I bought her, the dealer had to put a chip or bridge in this port in order for the car to start. With the chip out, you can turn on the car, but not start it. When I asked the dealer what it was they just said that it was a dealer installed item and would cost me to have it removed. My question is: what else does this port/device do besides disable the ignition? What is it hooked up to (the computer or just the ignition circuits) and can it be used for anything else (diagnostics, reprogramming...) I've tried the procedure to get the car to list codes (on the odometer) but it will not work. Is this because of this port?

While I'm in the typing mood, can someone give me the specifics on the fuel injectors (size, characteristics, flow rate, amp/voltage, part number), the part number and specifics on the Trottle Body, and the specifics on the heads (intake cfm/cc, exhaust cfm/cc, combustion chanber size). I will be getting all the tech manuals, but not for a couple of weeks. Thanks for any help you guys can give me.

Dave

This sounds like a security device that dealers intall to prevent theft while the car is on the lot. its just a starter disable that wont allow car to start unless the chip is installed. usually they want extra to leave it in not take it out.

Reiton - the only connection that we have under the drivers side dash is the onboard diagnostic connection . This connection is used to link up to the cars computers. As for putting a chip on ,never seen or heard of it.Personally if this was my car I would be going back to the dealer and finding out exactly what it is.If some dealer told me I would have to pay him to remove something I never asked for , man would he be in trouble. As for the rest of your question regarding injectors ,T/bodies and heads - sorry this I don't know. Your best bet is the service manuals from DC.

Thanks for all the help on this. I figured it was either a dealer deactivation device or a computer hook-up. I'll contact my dealer to see exactly what this is (I guess I could have done this first), but thanks for all the help.

By the way, I've received some info from MSD. Their DIS-4 iginition will work on the Trep. As soon as I get my taxes back I'll get this for my car and let everyone know how it works.

Ottowrkr, thanks for the help. I'll get the service manuals sometime in the next month, but thanks for trying.
