Has anybody had any experience with any iridium spark plugs? Are they better than the Bosch Platinum 4+?

Considering +4's suck, yeah almost anything is probably better.

Run the NGK's used in the special.

You could also try this it really helps in times like this.

I'm hearing that the Iridiums have a better spark and higher melting point than platinum, but I wanted to see if anybody else got better results out of a iridium plug. Anybody rich enough to try the Pulstar plugs? If so, are they all that and more like the price say they are?

My buddy ran iridiums in his 6.0L Silverado. He asked me like 4 times if it will make and difference and I responded nope. He went and bought them anyway for $10 a plug, and I have never heard so many swears.

So basically, you MIGHT gain 2-4 horsepower. But you're not gonna feel it most likely. If this was a racing engine where you do everything you possibly can to gain .5 horsepower, it would be a different story.

I have heard that Bosch plugs are the equivilent to Fram oil filters, they are garbage. Buy the NGK platinum ones. I have been running the OEM style Champion plugs in my 2.7 for the past 25,000 miles and they have been great. I only had one problem with a misfire that was my fault from the coin-operated car wash lol.

Look at the sticker under your hood. You will find the OEM plug number, but not the manufacturer. Type the plug number into google search, and you will see the manufacturer in the results. OEM will be the best plug for your engine. The only time you'll think you have better performance is if you replace old worn out plugs with new ones. New OEM vs New anything else= OEM will always be best.Most 2.7s came with champions. Most 2nd gen 3.5s came with NGK double laser platinum.

I have a 97 intrepid es 3.5, and i'm pretty sure I don't have a sticker under my hood. I know there usually is at least an accessory belt routing sticker.

Ok, since you have a first gen the plugs you should get are the copper ones. I have heard that they run badly if you use platinums or any other plug kind of plug. This is due to the type of ignition style of the first gens.

I tried this before I started this thread. The results didn't talk about this subject. Anyway, I'm thinking bout going with Autolite Iridium.

Don't waste your time, or money.
Get the NGK replacement plugs.
They are the best plug for our cars IMO
They have the right design to reach down into the combustion chambers

^^^^^What he said. The guys that designed these ignition systems put everything they had into making them. Just use the OEM plug, I guarantee you won't be sorry.

Copper actually have the hottest spark from what ive heard
I dunno if that is true or not. I do know that copper plugs wear out MUCH faster than platinums do. And I am talking about within 5000-10,000 miles. Platinums can go for 60,000+ miles.

At the end of the day, the platinum plugs are gonna cost you at most $3 per plug and give you the best performance for your money.

Thats funny when I search spark plugs I get 496 results.

Almost every plug that we can use has been tested with the same results over and over.

+4's have been bashed many times, from poor performance to not being able to check the gap. Some have had "luck" but majority rules.

NGK's have been the solid winner every time, iridium being a step up but the benifits are marginal over the NGK's.

Gimmicks like pulstar/directhits, E-3 have all been proven worthless.

I've ran Bosch 2's, 4's and the original Champions. You are probably not going to believe this but after recording the mileage of every tank since 1999 and even raced it against the clocks a few times at the drags. I can tell you there is NO DIFFERENCE.

With all due respect...I have 6 years of racing these cars under my belt, and I can tell you that the plugs that work the best have the extended/projected tip design that the OEM plug has. There are only 3 that I know of:
OEM Champions
OEM NGK
Denso Copper Core plugs...

The rest don't have the design, and because of that tip not being properly projected into the combustion chamber, you lose efficiency.

My time at the track only ever involved launch technique, tire pressure, weight loss, air silencer and intake runner length valve as far as back to back, to the hundreth comparisons at the track.

My spark plug tests are not as conclusion because the plug changes were at home and the car ran later at a different date. Not back to back comparisons but either way. Within a tenth and less than 1 mph. I also love the way this car has a dead smooth idle. Before and after a tune up it's still the same. So I'm not one to say one brand is total crap and my car would barely run. Fact is the difference I'm seeing is so minor, if there is a difference. I can't see it.

I see you race alot so please share your finds in terms of efficiency. Which plug do you find faster and by how much?

With 30 years of wrenching on everything I find Bosch and NGK give me the most problems and I would never recommend those plugs to anyone. The one plug that has never failed me and has always done the best would be Champion, then I would recommend OEM plugs after that. This is my experience..... Only Champions for me!!
