I own 98 intrepid, 2.7 litre, 107,000 kms. (Canadian).

When the car goes beyond 60 kms/hr, I hear a whistling sound from the center / back of the car - kinda similar to the one when it is very windy. This, started doing recently.
When car is parked, and standing outside, even though the sound is very minute, carefully listening, gives you a very, very low version of what I can hear when I am inside the car at the said speed.

Dealer put the car on the jack, and said it is coming more from the middle to the rear of the car (and not from the front hood), and thinks that it may be the fuel pump (but is not 100% sure).

HELP !!

You may be right about the fuel pump - That theory came from the dealer on the fly, without any detail diagnostics.
Wanted some ideas as to where to start.
I will check today, if the fuel pump races with the engine, and let know.
Thanks.

I have a whistle at only particular rpms... not sure what the rpms are though, but at low speeds when I'm accelerating, I hear a whistle that sounds like it's coming from the engine and/or exhaust. It happens only at a certain engine frequency, and if I keep it at that particular frequency, it will keep whistling. Have no clue where to start looking for that. I do know I have an exhaust leak in the engine compartment... wonder if that could make whistling.

There is lots of TSB's on our cars that mention noises. Please search them per they are too numerous to list all of them here.

TSB Page
