For my english composition 122 class I have to write a position paper. Mine is going to be about why the intrepid is such a great buy. So please post me reasons or ideas, what factors influenced you decision to buy your Intrepid and/or what do you love about it.
I really appreciate your input.

I'd look for another topic... doesn't sound like a good grade generator. Why don't you write about something current that other people might actually care about ... how about the pros and cons of war with iraq

Don't write about anything political unless you can back it up and are willing to debate it. Not everyone gives a **** about Iraq. The paper topic you have chosen is wonderful, but you don't need to look for the answers here. You already have them in your own mind, so don't let us sway you or push you in a direction that you weren't going. The best positions (for this kind of paper, anyway) comes from the heart. So, why do you own an Intrepid?

Right on. If your professor leans the other way, it may cloud their judgment. Let him/her grade the paper on it's technical merit, not some subjective "feeling."

It works the other way, too. I was once assigned to write a scientific paper on any topic. A scientific paper has sections such as theory, experimental data, and summary. While the other students bored the professor with actual dry scientific papers, I entertained him with a paper on "The Particle Theory of Dark." In technically precise language I explained how dark, shadows and such, was made up of tiny particles which were repelled by their opposite, light. The subject was ludicrous, but the paper was technically well written - I got an "A."

Oh yeah, back on topic... I bought the R/T 'cause Popular Mechanics rated it best bang for the buck in its class and because I fell for the styling - big time. The LH's don't look like any other car out there.

It's really more than the sum of its parts.

I believe it to be unique in its class, and even the class it belongs to is arguable. I think that's a big reason why I like it so much-it's just a lot of car!

Good luck with your paper.

Affordable, looks great, alot of power for its class (mainly for us 3.5L guys :D), roomy, 4 door (cheap insurnace), good handeling, and unique (try to name one non-dc car that even looks anything like an intrepid).

Yes, follow the crowd and write a paper on what half the class will write on.

For me, looks and brand reliability (yes it is actually true) got me into the dealer door (plus my family are good friends with the dealer). I looked at the R/T because it had the most power, was cheaper than an ES and I didn't need leather, ATC, etc. Plus, how many R/Ts do you see? Exactly. :D

I bought my '02 R/T because my wife got sick of the Cherokee. We've got over 19k on it and it's been great. Although it is a parking lot rash magnet. We've had good luck with Dodge in the past. Starting all the way back to my first car, a 1973 AMC Gremlin.

The only thing that would have forced me to buy something else was if Mercury had released the Marauder 7 months earlier. If I have a choice, I always go with RWD-V8.

Wow, you would have been one of the few people. I've seen one on the road since they were released. Every other one was on a dealer's lot.

LOL Yep, I've seen a total of two: one on the road (with dealer plates) and one displayed at the State Fair. I liked the car, but way too much money for a dressed up Crown Vic. I bet it would have to work at it and not screw around to beat my R/T, too.

Thanks for the help guys. The reason that I picked this topic is because you must pick a topic and have a list to support; literally a list. For example mine will start with an intro about the car and then give reasons why it's so great like 1. looks 2. reliability 3.power train. 5 reasons minimum 15 max. I chose to not write about war because my teacher is very liberal and hates President Bush and everything that he has done, so it would be hard to get a good grade. I thought how great intrepids are was a great topic. I know why I have one, and why I'm about to buy another (R/T) but I wanted some nation wide perspective.

thanks again for the help guys!

I love my R/T.... especially my particular one cause I have it nice and modded up. Most people wouldnt even know its an Intrepid... they would ask "what kind of car is that."

Other than that.... car has plenty of room.... has decent kick to it (even though it isnt incredibly fast).... rides great for long hauls....

.... and frankly mine also KICKS MAJOR ****IN' ASS. Even more than 2001RTs. :D

Why do you ask? Well ask 2001RT the same question after 108MPH. ;) ;) ;) (sorry man had to do it to you after the married/ballbusting thread). :D :D :D

Not being a Ford fan because I hate working on them, I still can't argue with the performance of the Marauder compared to my R/T. If you compare the numbers, My loaded '02 R/T had an invoice of around $29,700. The Marauder Invoices at $32,400 fully decked out. For that you get a lot more room and a much better power to weight ratio. The Marauder powers out at 13.79 lbs/Hp, my R/T only has enough oomph to get to 14.55 lbs/Hp. Plus the Marauder is RWD, and has 3.55:1 rear gears. I'm not sure what ratio the R/T uses as final drive, but Mine feels about like 3.2:1 or so.

So, if you're running a reasonably stock R/T, I wouldn't make any bets with a Marauder. The numbers don't work in our favor. If you've bumped your Intrepid to 270+ Hp, you might have a reasonable shot, but the Ford still has the gears.

Peace.

Reasons I bought mine: had a new baby on the way so we decided we needed a bigger car to replace a Ford Probe. I already owned an SUV so did not want another. Started looking at full size cars and liked the Intrepid R/T. Reasons: lots of interior space, cab forward design, loved the looks...still looks as modern as any car on the road, if I had to get a family car I still wanted something that was at least a little fun to drive and would move a little if I floored it, 7year 70K mile warranty standard, 0% interest, right around the price I was willing to pay $30K = all of these things added up to me owning an intrepid r/t.
