My wife usually drives the R/T to work and back. She has to drive about 1 hour each way because she has to drop the little devils off at dare care. She has been noticing that the car is guzzling way too much gas. She says she wants a car with a smaller engine to save on gas. I almost had a heart attack when I heard she wanted to get rid of it. I told her for the size of the car it is very good on gas. She wont leave me alone with this. What should I do? Help! I dont want to get rid of my R/T.... :(

Let her test drive the 4 banger accord. Do not get her in a V6, cuz then she wont notice the lack of power so much. Point out how much smaller the interior is. Constantly pick fault with as much as you can while test driving it.

Just take a suitcase and 16" bicycle and try to get both in the trunk of any other car you look at. You can do it in the 'trep, but I doubt you can do it in the Accord. She has to look at more then just gas mileage....

DON'T GET A 1ST GEN STRATUS OR BREEZE!!! I love my mopars, but your wife will have to switch to high maintenance mode to keep one of these on the road. No offense to anyone with one. Good looking cars, poor motor design.

Tell her how much you'll lose in the interest, equity you have built up so far and the taxes etc. in buying a new car.

This would probably be much more than the gas difference.

Offer to bank roll some (half?) of the gas expenses, cause hey, you're such a caring hubby. ;)

R/T & Mac is right. Do the math. The money you will save on gas won't come close to the money you'll drop selling a such a new car and then buying another vehicle.

Si and I, the expert husbands, have this all figured out. Sell the wife. Keep the car!
Do cars complain when our wives EAT too much? Noooooooooooooo
Do our cars complain when our wives complain too much??? Nooooooooooooooooo
Do our cars complain when our wives spend too much money on clothes and make-up?
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
So why should the wife complain when the car is a wee bit thirsty?

Giving up the R/T for a 4 banger? Wake me up! I'm having a bad dream! Go figure how much money you'll save in gas vs. the loss you're going to take on the R/T? Not much.

And coming from a soon to be father in February (he shoots, he scores!!) I will not want my child in a power starved, puny 4-banger. One of the reasons we bought our R/T was the possibility of starting a family (a month later  ) and having a set of wheels that would be safe and reliable...and cool looking and fast, sometimes. But I digress. I've been hearing a lot about the Jacobs Ignition Systems. I'm not sure if they make one for the Intrepid but the company claims several mpg gain in most cars. Has anyone checked into these?
