well last year i passed in CT. here are the results: (emissions)

----------------HC(ppm)--------CO%-----NOx(PPM)----RPM

Limit:-------------91-----------0.48-------1061--------N/A

EMISSIONS:-------91-----------0.16 -------315-------1346

RESULTS:---------PASS---------PASS------PASS------N/A

IF IM READING RIGHT.... the limit for HC is 91 and my emissions was 91! which is right on the nose, soooo with that being said, do u guys think it will pass in NY? or should i pay extra and get the bootleg pay and pass.

If the limit is 91 and your at a 91 I don't see why you would have a problem. Why spend more $ when there seems to be no need to....JMO

i dont get it .... dont the results say pass? My dads silhouette had like 89 /91 and he was pretty scared with his results.

I would say as long as the results say pass then ure good to go.

Well when its that close it's really up to the guy doing the test if he wants you to pass or not. Remember that they only get worse with the passing of time if no work was done on the car, like valve seals , or a full top rebuild.

Well you get drunk and punch the guy doing the test until you "pass" out or your car "passes" the test wichever comes first.....LOL don't know about that one but these "guaranteed" gimmicks are guaranteed for teh' suck and nothing else. Just do it under tha table like tha real gangstas do it.

On the way to the Emissions test center:
get the car up to full operating temp. (10-15 miles)
Then do a couple of WOT runs on the hiway (act like you are passing people or something..) get the Cats nice and warm...
then drive like normal for other 10-15 miles...
*THEN* go and pull into the Emissions testing center.

The WOT runs after the Cat's are warm will help clean them out a bit, and warm them up fully.
This trick worked well for our old cars that would be on the line around here.....

Alcohol Is simply an alkane (C(n) H(2n=2)) with one of the Hydrogen atoms replaced with a hydroxl ion

CH4 (Methane) becomes CH3OH (Methanol)
C2H6 (Ethane) becomes C2H5OH (Ethanol)
C3H8 (Propane) becomes C3H7OH (Propanol) Isopropyl or Rubbing Alcohol

etc

That extra Oxygen atom provides extra oxygen for combustion
SO IF your problem was not enough oxygen in 'helps'

IF not, it don't

and the alcohol gets mixed with... gas?
They sell "HEAT" additive at the auto parts store... It ususally is a high concentration of Ethanol or Propanol (Iso-propyl-Alcohol).
Its primary reason for existing is to mix with the water in your gas tank, and then allow the gas and water to mix up and allow your car to run. This is especially common in the winter months when condensation builds up in your tank.
The alcohol in your gas tank may help emissions....

THing is, most gas stations in most areas that are based in decent sized cities already have ethanol in their fuel (up to 10%).... ESPECIALLY areas that have emissions controls. it will take a lot of HEAT to make a difference due to that reason.

A side effect of the 10% ethanol is that your car will automatically mix any water that forms in your tank due to condensation, and you will never have a problem with water in the winter...
