Damn! if winter driving isn't stressful enough, ya gotta deal with the idiots that have no winter driving skills to save thier arse! Most people on this site seem pretty intelligent but for the few crap drivers here are a few tips:

1) BUY GOOD TIRES: Why is it that people run out and spend big $$$$ on Christmas gifts, but don't buy tires when they need them? So what if little Johnny & Aunt Betty don't get a couple more gifts....make tires your priority. Then when winter comes (which you know it will) you aren't sliding into somebody or getting yourself in an accident.

2) BRUSH YOUR CAR OFF: I'm sick of seeing idiots with thier headlights/rear window/windshield covered up. A moron pulled in front of me on the highway and didn't even realize I was there because his rear window was covered. Headlights, mirrors & brakelights can't do thier job if they're covered up. A little effort of a minute or two of brushing might keep you out of an accident....how much time is that worth?

3) USE YOUR HEADLIGHTS: Again, the snow is blowing all over, visibility is nil...and here's some jerkwad driving with no lights (at all!) on. I guess the mentality is that if it is daytime, you don't need lights no matter what. Well those headlights might tell the driver with snow on his back window you are there. Also, in the bad stuff, daytime running lights are not enough by themselves. And you idiots that think it's cool to just drive with parking lights on but no headlights.... :brutal_46

4) STAY TO THE RIGHT LANE: If you have suck winter driving skills and want to creep along at 20 mph at men-who-wear-hats speed...do so in the right lane. don't plop your butt in the left and slow EVERYONE up.

okay I guess that is it for my ranting....just a little stressed because I almost got hit by someone that spun out in front of my lane on the highway this morning. Seriously though, some fools should take the frickin bus and spare the rest of us... :smilie_cl

Yeah, really!! You'd think that by now, this far into winter, the crappy winter drivers would have either smashed up their cars or gave up on driving. You forgot one of the biggest menaces on the highway, the SUV drivers who can't get it thru their thick skulls that just because they can get up to speed quickly does NOT mean they can stop quickly!! I live in fear of Explorers, Grand Cherokees, etc in my rear view mirror about five feet from my bumper on the expressway...

Oh, I totally agree with you....another thing, I was going to work this morning and one moron didn't brushed his rear window and there was a cop right behind him, well....guess what?? The cop switched lane and turn right sooo the moron didn't got a ticket.:bsflag: This would have been me and I would have got one :soapbox: Let's keep the ranting, it feels good. :werdsign:

yes yes and double yes. never mind the fact that they cant see you but then you have to deal with that snow blowing off their car and hitting you in the windshield or something.

I agree and would add that winter driving needs all of your attention and concentration so leave the cell phone off when in motion!

i would like to add one thing... i hate it when people that cant drive in the winter slam on their brakes just because their back end starts to get a little wobbly, if your rear end starts to slip, take ur damn foot off the gas, and dont slam the brake that will make you spin. idiots

I always rotate my tires right before snow falls. By the time winter comes, my fronts are usually pretty worn.

I always at least clear the front windows, and lights. If i'm not going to brush off the entire car, like the trunk lid and such, I at least make sure that all my lights will be visible, including the center tail light.

Most of the time i'll clear the rear window as well. Theres usually not enough on the back window that the defroster can't handle within a few minutes.

Is having the rear window obstructed really illegal? I don't think it is, as long as you can see out of your side mirrors.

My roommate is really bad about brushing off the car. He will get inside, and only brush off what he can reach from the drivers seat. So, he gets half the windsheild, and the drivers side window. nothing else...

I always like these tips...

1. DON'T GO OUT IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO!
2. If you don't know how to drive in the weather (like many people here on the East Coast) DON'T GO OUT EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO!
3. ALL WHEEL DRIVE DOES NOT MEAN ALL WHEEL STOP!
4. Clear ALL of your car off... not just the windows... Clear the roof off too.
5. Keep your distance. Although I don't mind if you rearend me (you'll be either getting me a new back-end, or a new car), I don't feel like dealing with an idiot in the middle of a blizzard. The last thing I want to hear is "D***! It's pretty slick out!" while you could care less you hit me!

Ok... I'm done my rant... LoL

And Don't Trust any other driver. Of course, this applies year round, regardless of weather conditions.

I got a couple....

1) The right hand turn lane is NOT the right hand lane.....

2) i know you dont want to drive beside the snowbank/curb, but dont move the car in my lane so that you leave me no choice but to move into oncoming traffic lanes. Its not a nice thing to experience when you have SUV's coming in the opposite way.

3) stay home if you dont have to go out (ladies apply to rules 1 and 2), and for the old guys who cant drive or baby their car...thats rule #2.

I dont like hitting curbs, but when the road is covered with ice and snow, the car tends to bounce off so im not afraid...even if i just spent enough $$$ for new tires.

I suppose that works for visibility, to a certain degree. Unfortuantly, when that snow, and sometimes ice, starts to fly off the car, it can be a pain in the ass for the other drivers. I know that nearly getting hit by a chunk of flying snow/ice has scared the **** out of me on a few occations.
