Might be water that turns to ice
Water freezes at 32F
Water is heavy and stays at the bottom of oil and hides in the low areas.
I dont know where the parking pawl is in these transmissions but it is a place to look

What year is your car? It may be moisture and corrosion inside the shifter cable. Earlier years were more susceptible to the problem - the cable was redesigned (in 2001 I think) to eliminate the problem. Above freezing, is the shifter at all difficult to move thru the gear positions? It should be very easy and smooth except for the detents between gear positions. If binding at all, cable probably needs to be replaced.
