First off great site,It gave me way more mod ideas and made me love my new(to me) Intrepid even more.

I have a opportunity to score a 2nd gen(2002) Chrysler Sebring 2.7L in mint condition for < $1000. The blue book value is $7000+

But the problem is the guy said the timing chain broke. Now my question is what are my chances that the valves and pistons survived and I can get away with a new chain and water pump? Or will I be looking at at least new heads?

To the guys that has worked on the 2.7L motors, What are your experiences with broken timing chains?

Thanks! :fun_08:

Welcome to the site!

Unfortunately, the 2.7 is an interference engine, so if the chain broke there is likely severe damage to the valves and cylinder heads.

Those Sebrings are sweet cars, and with its high blue book value I would suggest covering all bases and getting a low mile used 2.7 to put back in. Stick with synthetic oil and good maintenance and it will last a long time.
