Just snagged a 15k U160 Seagate Cheetah off 2cpu.com for sale forum. Got some really, REALLY good deals from these guys, as well as lots of good SCSI equipment on Ebay lately, just an FYI.
Now the comp runs 1 7200 U160, 3 10k U160 and the 15k, as well as two SCSI cd-r(1 Plextor U\W and a Yamaha cd-rw). Use the 7200 drive for pagefile.
Gonna throw the OS's on the 15k and ditch the IDE drive for some PURE SCSI goodness.
Just thought I'd share:D

You might think about relocating your pagefile.sys to the 15K RPM drive. There isn't a need to slow the pagefile down any further by putting it on the 7200 RPM drive. Your overall machine performance will increase under high RAM loads as the drive it is swapping to will be twice as fast.

If you can accurately determine that your box doesn't page out, then it doesn't matter where you put it. Perfmon can give you some fairly accurate information on this. Also check out www.sysinternals.com for some rather nifty freeware utils that extend the NT/2K/XP core monitoring/management capabilities.

actually, while you were on the topic of SCSI I have a question I've always wondered about... If you were to run a U160 SCSI HD off a PCI SCSI adapter card wouldn't it kind of be defeating the purpose because isn't PCI limited to 33Mbps?? Or am i way off on this?

You lucky bastard:biggrin:
Man I wish I had the $$ to go SCSI, oh well looks like I'll be stuck with IDE for a while:dozeoff:

Oh, to asnwer JGarrett911 question, PCI bus is capapble of transfering maximum of 132 mb/s. It runs at 33mhz.

serial ata drives coming soon should signal the end of scsi drives, 1st generation 150mbs/ 2nd generation 300mbs and at the price of ide drives can't wait.

Actually it makes more sense to use the 15k for the os due to the low seek\acces times, the 7200 rpm will manage the pagefile fine since 512 DDR is in the system and rarely does it use the pagefile as it is(few exceptions).
You need to look in the forums, for sale or trade, not hot deals, thats where the good stuff is.
As for serialATA its new=expensive, and as yet unproven in the market and not many mb's have it yet, and U160 moves over 35mb\s on average for me(44 with 10k drives average), plus U160 drives are quite cheap now if you know where to look.
I'm sure 4 years down the road, yeah serialATA and iSCSI\U320 will be common, but I dont have a trust fund to be on the cutting edge every 3 months or so, so I have to purchase wisely. Plus I can always grab a 64-bit card down the road cheap too.
The IDE drive I have now(ATA 100) only averages 23-25 mb\s at best, though I'm sure a WD 200GB drive would do loads better due to areal density of its platters.

.
I have 512mb DDR, but my system always uses its pagefile, even when its not even using all 512 of the ram. I tried turning off the pagefile, but then photoshop wouldn't open because it said it needs the pagefile or some crap...?

I modified the registry for conservative swapfile usage;-)
I just ripped some songs using Exact Audio Copy annd Lame, each song uncompressed took about 15 seconds to rip, and then moved 250mb worth of songs from the 36gb drive to the 18gb drive in a 7 second copy. Not too shabby, but sure to improve...
