My buddy and i raced tonite, and believe it or not, i won! His 5.7L v8 and heaving pedal foot left him sitting in my rearview mirror in a cloud of smoke. Ah newbie street racers, aren't they so adorable? Anyways, once i show him how to start so you don't leave all of your tire on the street, he'll smoke me in a sec, but i thought it was funny, and now i have bragging rights for the school :) . I did beat a Honda Civic the tonite also, another friend, this one was a good race, but in the end i pulled ahead, gotta love that top end speed :D . I'll bring my digi cam out next time and get some video for you all. Good times.

just one problem with your last post - The Dakota R/Ts have a 5.9 and not a 5.7...

And your statement: "how to start so you don't leave all of your tire on the street, he'll smoke me in a sec" is very true... my brother has a 2001 Dakota with a 4.7 that i've driven and even that would totally rip the **** out of my Intrepid....

5.9L = 360ci. My brother had a "78 Dodge Magnum with one. Only problem putting a powerful engine like that in a pickup is a light ass end that makes it hard to get a good take off without spinning the tires.

exactly, so i'll enjoy beating him and making fun of him for a while, till he learns not to. Then...oh well, i'll stick to racing hondas :)

I was very close to buying a 2000 R/T Dakota but I decided to save some money and buy a used car (i.e. the Trep). I would still love to get that truck and through some money into performance add-ons.

Good temporary kill though. :p

****, why go for a Dakota R/T when you can save up your $ for a little while and get a SRT-10

Well i raced him again. Acutally him and his dad. But this time in their 95' 355 GTS  yeah that didn't last long, we were on the highway this morning, around 4 (yeah it's early, he wanted to go driving so he took it upon himself to use my spare key and break into my house to wake me up.... ) Anyways, we started rolling at about 45mph, then did a 3-2-1 countdown and then they were gone. GOD I LOVE THAT CAR!!!! 1 of 17 made in red, sahweeeeeeeeeeeet. I'll get a pic of my car, his truck and his ferrari sometime, so you'll know i'm not bs'in. Oh well, once i become a quadtrillionaire right out of college and buy my fleet of F1's, i'll be king of the world! I'll buy you guys some stuff too i guess. :) Good times babay

I've always wondered, on say a Dakota 4X4, could you start in 4 wheel drive, so you have no wheel slippadge, then after 15 mph or so shift back into 2 wheel drive and keep on accelerating?

I don't know if you could on a dakota. In my suburban, we have push-button changing, but that takes upwards of 10-15 seconds to go from 2whl drive to 4 and vice versa. But in a dakota 4x4 and durango, i think you have to be in park, or stopped to do it. Anyways, it would also take time, in my friends durango we could only do it while stopped.

you only have to put them in neutral when shifting to 2WD from 4-Low. You can flip it into 2wd from 4-high on the fly, but doing so with it WOT it might not be so good on the transmission or transfer case

Jeep Grand Cherokees do an unbelievable launch in 4-low. Then the truck rips through all of its gears and hits a top speed of 45 mph. The launch is so hard with no wheel slippage that it whips you back into your seat. I have done this about a dozen times. None of the vehicles were mine. ;)

this may not be 100% accurate, but I grew up in a family who has mainly owned trucks and I was told by my brother (who's a mechanic) that anything over around 25mph in 4low is bad on the transmission/transfer case because it causes them to become incredibly hot.

anyone else heard this?

You are definitely right. But, these were trucks at a dealership so who cares. I didn't buy them! :D
