I just had a K40 radar detector installed in my R/T. The unit is installed in the front of the car and picks up X,K, Ka and Laser radars. It is also VG-2 invisible. It comes with a one year ticket rebate where they will pay for any and all tickets that you get while using the K40. I am not really worried about that part anyway. They will even replace the system if it gets stolen. The system is pretty much invisible in the car. The only visible part is a red light on top of the steering column. There is a power control switch mounted on the dash that just looks like another knob. The power light is mounted in the center console so it will not be a distraction to the driver. This system is totally stealthy. Cannot wait to use it on my trip to Missouri when I move there in two weeks.

There is a red light and speaker

The system is designed to be invisible. There is a red light mounted on the top of the steering column near the instrument panel. There is a PIEZO speaker mounted in the air conditioning vent. There are four different tones that will be heard according to which kind of radar is making them (X, K, Ka, laser). The indicator light that shows that the power is on and what mode you are in (city or highway) is mounted in the center console. So even though the system is pretty much stealthy, it will make its presence known when there is an active radar system being aimed in my direction.

Cerebus17

I am moving to ST LOUIS. I think my R/T will be pretty rare there. I did not find a lot them at the local dealers (maybe 5). I did not find any used ones at all after searching AUTO TRADER. I think my R/T will be a pretty rare sight in ST LOUIS. Where is Springfield anyway ?

Will try and take pics soon

The company that makes this detector has a website: www.k40.com. The model I have is called the K40 UNDETECTABLE.

Here's the pix

k40a: this is the red indicator light on top of the steering column. It is kind of hard to see unless you keep the tilt wheel kind of low, but the sound of the detector going off is more than enough to alert you to any radars in the area.

k40b: This is the control knob on the dash board. It is like two knobs in one. The outer knob controls the volume, the inner knob turns the system on, turn it left is city mode, turn it right is highway mode.

k40c: This is the indicator light that shows the status of the K40 system and a toggle switch that lets me disable some of my alarm sensors that might cause false alarms. I had some new sensors added to my alarm that seem to be falsing alot so they decided to install a toggle switch that lets me shut off the sensors that seem to be causing all the problems. As far as the K40 lights go: Green light= hwy mode, Yellow light=city mode, no light=system OFF. The installer decided to put it here so that it would not cause distractions by having it on the dash board or the instrument cluster. No big deal since I only need to see it when I first start the car and not when I am driving. The red light is enough of a distraction anyway. I listen mainly for the detector sound and don't tend to look for the red light going off.

Sorry, I could not find where they installed the receiver unit or I would have taken a pic of it. I know its there somewhere since the detector IS working (HA HA). Hope these pics helped.

K40 SYSTEM IS NOT CHEAP !

The price for the base K40 unit which only detects X,K, KA band was $620 installed. The laser module added another $200 installed. Total cost was about $820.
