My 2000 ES is making a trip to the bone yard, undoubtedly to it's final resting place.
A 17 yr old HS student hit the car head on when she was rushing to school (late) and daydreaming about God knows what.
Her statement to the police include;
Police, "When did you know there was a problem?"
Her, "When the air bag went off".
Both the Intrepid airbags went off. Trep's speed was about 15mph. She was doing (she claimed) 15 mph, but after the impact the Trep went backwards about 1 feet. I have a degree in Physics so if anyone needs a primer on what this meant, just let me know.
Both (her) insurance and the body shop have the damage at $8,100. Insurance is wanting to total my car. I'm pissed. They are offering $12,400 for a settlement, or $10,050 if I keep the car.
My concerns:
1) I can't buy an 00' ES and put it on my driveway for $12400. They are totaling the car with a damage ratio of 65% BS in my book
2) Keep the car and fix it with the 10g. I would then have a clean 2000 ES, of which I know the history, but the title would be a salvage. More BS.
Options...
1) Lose almost 1g replacing with a very similar 2000 ES, which I've found.
2) Spend about $3,000 and move up to an 02' with a warranty.
3) ***** up a storm and somehow get the insurance to come up with at least another $500.
4) Turn the claim in on my insurance and let my guys go after them. (Don't want to go there... probably a big hit on my mod rate)
What to do, what to do...
P.S. Anyone selling a clean low mileage ES with leather?
