Anyone with a 3.5L trep should know they might be dealing with a death trap.
I used to love my 96 trep,(only has 64k miles) I swore it was the best thing on the planet and that I'd keep it forever. Then I started having oddball electrical problems, Eventually they went away on their own after the dealer failed to find them. Then the engine began acting up(rough idle, serging, teribble gas milage) The transmision was acting strange too but again the dealership failed to find any problems (after six visits and hundreds paid for their time looking). Eventually other than fuel economy the rest of the problems seemed to subsid.
Then today (right after leaving the dealership from an oil change and another assurance that the vehicle was in perfect condition) it started serging/almost stalling for a second. Then it seemed to be alright for a while but when I hit 80km/h in city traffic it freeked. It started almost stalling and going down to 250RPM a little gas had no effect, then it jumped so hard I think I have wiplash(seriosly) then the power steering stopped and the brakes failed. It continued to stall/jump for another minute or so even though I was off the gas. I couldn't stop the car and I was comming into traffic!! I pumped the brake several times until it want hard then stood on it with almost no effect, It took everybit of muscle in my 6foot2 220lb body to swerve the car right and back left again to miss hitting a truck before it finally stopped dead with the engine light on.
Upon restarting it flipped out again so I pushed it to the shoulder and tried everywhere to find an open garage. I couldn't so after a few hours I decided to try to make it to a closed dealer a 1/2mile away where I planned to leave it. The car started right up and ran reasonably well (engine light no longer on) so I drove it home at low speed. Everything worked, including all 4 gears, but it had a hesitation when given gas and a hard shutter when the pedal was released, just before I got to my driveway it developed a shutter that felt like driving over small speed bumps.
Well thats my story, guess I'm pretty much screwed, I got warranty coverage on the whole powertrain but the damn garage will probably say its all fine unless it really flips out while they are driving it, they will likely just say the constant shutter is normal just like the serging and getting 10mpg was normal! And even if they say they can fix it I'll never trust the car again. (after all it was in "perfect condition" and had just left the garage(at closing time) an hour before this.
Does anyone know if I can sue the bastards or is there somewhere I can at least report them. I know after being their biggest fan for years now I'll never drive a chrysler/dodge again.
If your driving the same car as me I wish you good luck, your going to need it if it decides to freek on you.
