:D GREAT WEBSITE !! I just ordered the non-SE gearing for my
ES and a new chain. Just 80K I thought it could be worn.
I`ll do a Tranny flush while I`m at it. Has anyone done this yet? Any good tips? Thanks to all for some GREAT advice!

The chains are super strong and I doubt you will need the chain. Mine looked brand new when I had it off at 70,000 miles. Do you have the chrysler part no.s for the gears?

I have one of the gears and need the part no. for the other one.

Thanks

I thought you guys with 3.2 and 3.5's wanted SE gearing?

PHIL

The SE gearing will move the power to the low end. Prowler Pro gears take it even lower.

Maybe he was just doing maintence on them and replaced them with the same kind. non-SE gearing = ES gearing. Or maybe its a typo...

Thanks for the reply. I made a mistake when I said non-SE gearing I ment "SE" wich is the 31/34 gearset. I`m trying to get this big sedan moving quicker! Now being a dirtbiker, I always replace the chain when new sprockets are installed.
The part # 4659834 sprocket-T 34 Tooth?
Part # 4659831 sprocket-O 31 Tooth?
Now I assume the last 2 numbers indicate amount of teeth, the receipt did not specify which was which!!!
HELL I Pay that much for a O-ring chain and wear it out in one season of riding!
See you at the stoplight!

Thanks, That site IS very helpful! I guess I`ll have to buy two more Quarts of +4 trans fluid. Plus the fluid I`ll lose when I powerflush the trans.

Please Stop the Rain!

Turbo's site

If you look at the gears on turbo's site the gears he is taking out are the 31/34 gear set and replacing them with the prowler pro gears. The 31/ 34 set looks different then the 32/33 thats in my 300M.

Thanks for the part no.s I have the 31 tooth gear coming on Monday.

When I take it apart I do one thing different then Turbo. Which I think makes it a little easier.

After removing the frame to transmission mount crossmember bolts, I remove the two upper transmission mount to rubber isolator nuts. I then raise the transmission and remove the crossmember and rubber isolator as a unit from the top mounting bracket. I then lower the transmission and turn the crossmember 90 degrees with the rubber isolator still attached so I can remove the 4 bolts holding the rubber isolator on. This makes getting at these four bolts much easier.

Hope this helps.

Holy crap. I'm seeing these gears for about $30 each on kollerparts.com. This could be a damn good mod for the money.

These should work on a first gen too, right?

Did you just use the old chain?

Are you going to get a dealer to recalibrate your speedo?

The chains are the same for all second gen's. I don't know if they will fit in a first gen. I don't think so because I think the first gens had a single chain drive system.

I too beleive this is the best bang for the buck as far as performance mods. it should also be perfectly safe as the 2002 special has the same gears. It will definitly help off the line performance. With hardly any change in fuel mileage.

Quote from Chrysler web site under 300M special features"3.89 overall gear ratio for off-the-line acceleration"

Their is only one chain I have been through all the part no.s and drawings at Chrysler. Turbo should be able to confirm it as the gears he took out when he put the prowler pro gears are definitly the 31/34 I counted the teeth in the pictureon his website to confirm. As the original gears look different then the 31/34.

Will the speedo have to be re-calibrated? The engine is just spinning approx. 200 rpm faster. I`ll soon find out. The stock ES gearing w/3.2L is 32/33 and the chain is the same length.
I`ll try to keep the rubber isolator on the crossmember when removing it. Thanks rman300m for the tip.

Let us know how that turns out and if it's worth it, I might be interested, although I REALLY REALLY want the Pro-Gears but $1500US is a lot of $. The Pro-Gears come with a speedo converter I think, so the answer is YES the speedo needs to be recalibrated........I think?

GL on this interesting perf mod :)

I've been watching and reading about gears for our cars for over two (2) years now. The factory gears don't do enough to notice a difference. Look at the 300M Special's times against a "regular" 300M's times. You can't see a change. If someone says there is a measurable change, I don't think I'd believe it. The Prowler gears are a MUCH larger change and they only give about .5 sec in a whole quarter mile. OK, that is good but from 0-60 you might see .2 sec change. And that boys and girls is with the high cost Prowler gears. The % change is far greater than any offered by the factory. Don't look for a full sec change with Prowlers, let alone 2 sec off the quarter, it ain't there.

You don't keep the isolator on leaving it on and turning the crossmember just allows you to get to the mounting bolts easier to remove them.

You may be able to get the speedo recalibrated at the dealer using a drbII as that gear ratio comes in a standard 2.7 trep. If not there are a couple of manufacturers who sell speedo correction devices.

Don

Their are two problems running the quarter with the prowler pro gears, the first is traction at the first part of the 1/4 mile, and the second is you have to make the shift to 3rd because your gear ratio is so radicly changed. I have a standard 300M and I have seen 0-60 times that are .4 seconds faster with the special and the 2.7 gears. The special loses some of that time advantage later in the 1/4 because of higher weight and wider tires later on in the 1/4 mile. In my opinion the prowler pro gears are a bit of an overkill unless you are going to do some serious HP Mods for 1/4 mile times. The 2.7 gears will make you more jump at the start.

Well, some people who have the gears say they are awesome??? You think they are lying?
