While checking into buying manuals for my Intrepid, I stumbled across this for Renting a DRB III scan tool for 3 days @ $150. Don't know if anyone wants to lay out that kind of cash, but it's considerably less than buying the tool. Might even be more cost effective if you want to do custom programming than trying to talk the dealer into it. Here's the link:

Also if you're looking for an authentic Factory Service Manual or one of the Diagnostic manuals or even an Owners manual this is the place to get it. Be forewarned they're not cheap at least for the Service manuals!! This is a DaimlerChrysler site for their technical manuals. Available to anyone with money!! Service manuals are available in paper or CD format. Here's the link to the home Page:

Hope this is useful info for someone. If I hadn't been lucky enough to get my paper service manual off Ebay I would've bought one from them. :grinno:

Sorry about the link..apparantly the site assigns each visitor an individual access. I copied and pasted the Pdf file to my Yahoo briefcase and anyone should be able to view it now. As far as programming capabilities, it's the same tool the dealers have. I would think if you wanted to reprogram a generic module you could do it or change some of the functions of your current module(s) like gear ratio then it could be done. I'm not sure what the dealer charges to do some basic programming...and in some cases as far as modifications I'm sure they don't wan't to do it. A 2.7L engine swap to 3.2L or 3.5L comes to mind. If you were really devious you could change the mileage of your car etc. Just thought I'd share what I found.

The only programming the DRBIII can do is what is downloaded from DCX to the dealers as far as engine specs go. As far as gear ratio. I think on the LH the only thing that you can program is the tire size. The gear ratio is programmed to the engine controller thtough the VIN. As far as changing mileage, it can not be done with the DRB. The DRB can program the SRI mileage, but that is it.

I thought if you had to change out the BCM or PCM you needed to program in the VIN and mileage so they all matched? Where is the mileage stored? If you changed the module out wouldn't you end up with 0 miles? Just some questions. It doesn't matter much to me now as my car was stolen sometime this morning. Guess the bastards liked the chrome SXT wheels I put on Saturday. Guess I could always buy a real SXT now.

I am not sure which module the mileage is stored in in the Intrepid, but the module that holds the mileage has to be ordered by the dealer with the original. It is programmed at the company that makes the module. If the whole car lost the ability to store any memory, then they would go tot the last time it was at a DCX dealer. If it had not been to a dealer in a long time, they would search for a receipt in the box. If they can not find any of that they have to take your word for it. The only writeable(sp) mileage is the SRI(service recommended incruements(sp))mileage.
