Here is a list of approximate RPM at 150 MPH for various gearsets

RPM - Ratio
4690 - 3.66
4985 - 3.89
6200 - 4.84
6330 - 4.94
6360 - 4.97
Do you know if anyone actually make a 4.84 gear, Don?

I don't think any shorter gearing helps, as most dyno graphs show the 3.5's curve flats out after 5800 rpm or so.

I know... old thread, but

I had the opportunity over the holidays to find my speed-nanny. Reasonably flat road, no real wind to speak of, with the needle pointed squarely at the center of the last odometer digit, she cut out. Judging by the last number on the speedo (200km/h) the extra distance brings it to 225km/h or 140Mph. Handling was very flat (no float) and feedback was very 'polite', no real vibration or harshness though I could feel every pebble on the road. Bit of a 'pucker-factor' at that speed enhances the butt-dyno. She was still movin' up nicely and had loads of rpm left though I was about to let off anyway because my tires aren't rated for that kinda play.

My $.02, without the nanny, on flat ground with the right rubber & conditions, 150Mph no problem.

So, atleast in my case confirmed: '02 R/T limited to 140Mph

Was made. Isn't made any more. I have a set with a damaged chain.

Mine was still climbing to 6400. It was NEARLY flat at that point though.

you guys taking your r/t's to 140+ are nuts
no thanks. ill keep mine in the "theoretically could happen category" for now.
theres no space for that where i live - not to mention all the deer
wouldnt want to hit a deer or anything else for that matter at those speeds

115 inmy treppy so far, and i couldve kept going... it was a while ago, but im sure i will try it again, saying its awhile ago, to let you know i cant give much detail, just a flat road, with say...a mile 1/2 of room n hit it easilly

Whats the point of going fast on street roads in your stock intrepid?
'Cause the girl in the passenger seat was getting damp @ 160, I figured 220 should make her squirm right into the back seat. She did...

I know we discourage high speeds on public (street roads), I do too. I would never do this with ANY traffic around. Not trying to justify it but you really need to see the section of Hwy we were on, 3 lanes, wide shoulders, fully fenced, very well lit, huge medians, autobahn quality surface and no traffic. We made a westbound pass scanning the eastbound lanes, took a loop back eastbound knowing there were no cars between us and our exit, opened 'er up.

Great fun, not something I feel the need to do often. I have most of my fun between zero and 100 although, 120-160 is a fun run too.

Maybe i dont understand because i wouldnt feel safe driving my car that fast, i mean it does have almost 190k (and still looks good thankyou) If i had a new C6 or something i would do it too...

Honestly dude, I don't think I'd feel safe taking a 1g to those speeds either. There is absolutely NO vibration or ANYTHING to speak of @ 140MPH in the 2g R/T, it handles AMAZINGLY at those speeds. My turbo Laser doesn't feel so good once I pass 120MPH.

I understand you can kill yourself at those speeds easily, but I don't suppose you drive the 400 series highways (the most major highways in Canada). At 3AM on a Monday morning, there isn't much traffic dude. I took my car up to 140+MPH, and it was still accelerating slowly, but once I saw traffic I let off.

I don't mind endangering myself as much as I mind endangering others who are just minding their own business, and have nothing to do with my speed contest. If someone was racing me, I'd think that I'd let off by 120MPH or so.

Yep...

And no, I wouldn't do this with a car beside me (or near me).

I could not believe how smooth the car was at these speeds. I cruised a while @ 200 (125mph), there were some nice turns and I was prepared to drift into the next lane if I needed but the handling was SO solid and the steering had NO ill effects, she held her ground just fine. Although I was hyper-aware going that fast, I was never nervous. It doesn't take long to get 'comfortable' rocketing along and you need to re-calibrate the butt-dyno. As you slow down, it feels like you're crawling. @ 100 (63mph) you almost want to open the door and give it a helping push with your foot.

update to just beyond 120, for my 97 treppy, night time run long straitaway nice and flat, about 4 or 5000rpms i believe in 4th of course, and still climbing, but i was on my way to someones house on that street so i let it go and stop after the speedo went just beyond my 120... from 110-120 took the longest amount of time, but i believe i can achieve some more speed with the ammount of rpms i had left

I'm unsure of my top end in my 3.3 '97, but I do know that it has no limiter-my 'trep was an unmarked police service vehicle (not a full-blown cop car, just one a Captain used to drive between various units on duty) and I've had it beyond the 120 on the speedo when my son was badly injured in Indianapolis last summer and I really had to get there in a hurry.

I used to run my '85 Civic CRX 1.3 at 185 kph on the Autobahn all the time. Rock stable.

This is a car that weighed, with me and a load of fuel aboard, about a metric ton. The car performed best with 1/2 tank or less of gas.

Sure, I would have been one with the bridge abutment if anything had some wrong, but what the hell, I was 27 and full of hormones.

Man, don't know how I missed this thread when it was new.

The programming for the 300M replacement PCM has a limiter of 143 MPH - the Cop version is limited to 136. I don't think any limit has been verified one way or the other on the stock (factory issue) R/T's.

That's about how far up I was, too - center of left digit on the odo. I guessed upper 130's but 140 sounds good, too, with room to spare. And I agree with you about the handling, rock solid.

You swapped out your V-rated tires ...?
